WiFi access, freshly made fruit smoothie, and breakfast? New chain opens in London
by Guy J Kewney | posted on 06 August 2007
You
probably haven't heard of Crussh's "fresh juice crusade" yet, but after this week, you will! - the startup chain has opened up an Internet Smoothie bar right next to the HQ of London's high-tech magazine publisher, Incisive Media. And it's yet another WiFi hotspot.
Well, when the new outlet opens, it will be next to Incisive. Two new Crussh juice bars will open at the beginning of September, says MD Chris Fung. Sadly, the WiFi is "just another BT Openzone franchise," rather than a free service for early adopters.
Not just smoothies, but also breakfast: sandwiches, snacks, and even sushi meals from 8 AM, says the company.
You might imagine that Fung's name betrays where he got the idea: in the heat of Singapore, Hong Kong and other Malaysian and Asian population centres, your fruit drink is normally made in front of you, rather than poured into cartons and stacked on shelves. That's probably essential in tropical areas; but in London, it could be seen as just cool.
Sadly for romance, the chain started up as a single store back in 1998, when frustrated city-worker James Learmond began CRUSSH as a single café, selling everything he wanted to eat for lunch but couldn't find.
According to the announcement today, the new stores are on Broadwick Street, in the heart of Soho, and south of the river in Bankside, just behind the Tate Modern.
