Next iPhone trails rumours of GPS
by Guy J Kewney | posted on 29 April 2008
According to Navigadget, software developers have found signs inside their developer kit that a future iPhone will include navigation.
In a clip titled iPhone ready for GPS the reporter notes:
It looks like Apple is readying iPhone for GPS support. The report quotes developers who explain what function calls exist, and why they point to a built-in, rather than addon, navigator unit. The device emulator included with iPhone SDK for application developers includes hints that the company has added support for GPS to the platform.
We have no way of telling whether this would be an add-on device, an embedded GPS chip, or an A-GPS chip from Qualcomm but whatever it is the software is ready for it.
